Results of the Questionnaire Notes:

The % results have been rounded to the nearest whole number. Therefore totals may not always add up to exactly 100.

The results of this questionnaire and all other “Your Say” exercises are published on the school website.

122 parents/carers completed and returned the questionnaire. We are grateful to parents/carers that took the time to respond.

· There high levels of agreement to most of the statements.

· In particular the school is extremely pleased to note that 100% of respondents strongly agreed/agreed that “The  school informs them  about their child’s progress and that “The teaching is good at Marine Park First School.

· There were low levels of disagreement to all statements. Only one parent/carer strongly disagreed with any of the statements.

· The combined % that strongly agreed/agreed was always at least in line with the North Tyneside Total. Moreover, the % that strongly agreed was often higher than the North Tyneside Total.

· Results are generally improved when compared to last year’s parent/carer questionnaire.  See the “Your Say” section of the website to compare this year’s results with last.

Some parents/carers included written submissions. Where appropriate, these have been published in the “Your Say” section of the website with a response if possible. Homework and extra-curricular provision are the most consistent themes mentioned and these have both been discussed by the parent forum since the questionnaire was sent out. However, Governors will consider these comments and may ask for further consultation to take place in relation to the questionnaire results or any of the issues raised.

Homework seems to consist of spellings and a reading book with the odd bit of maths now and then. I think my son needs more.

I only disagreed with homework, as my children don't get very much

I agree with the school stance on the level of homework for year 1 - this has helped to maintain my child's enjoyment of learning and the school environment

Homework could be more creative particularly the maths homework (when we get it!) Usually a photocopied sheet which is the same for all. No feedback given. Spellings are learnt but parents and child not given feedback as to what could be improved. Children bring home 1 reading book/week together with a reading record book, there appears to be little crossover/communication between home and school in this area of learning. Year one was better but still not brilliant. Have loved the holiday projects which are more creative in their approach/presentation. The home/school diaries which have been completed in the holidays were great as were/are the news books completed in year one at a weekend. Learning journeys in nursery are great and could be extended to KS1/Rec. [Name redacted]'s comments after each entry are lovely...both for children and parents! The work/time spent feels valued and there is no pressure to do something every week.

Homework in year 3 - seems to be less than other years

My children do not seem to get as much homework (if any at all!!) as children of friends who attend other schools. Whilst I do not necessarily want them to spend lots of time on homework it is a good way to keep parents in touch with what the children are working on or may be struggling with

Response: There were more comments about homework than any other issue. Homework encompasses a wide range of activities such as reading, learning spellings and tables, completing worksheets as well as open ended activities. Pupils in both Nursery and Reception complete Learning Journeys. We provide holiday homework activities and “Things to Do at Home” on the half termly curriculum information sheets and termly maths sheets.

There is broad support for the appropriateness of homework given; 92.5% of parents/carers that completed the questionnaire agreed or strongly agreed with the statement “My child receives appropriate homework for their age.” This issue was discussed by Parents’ Forum last academic year. However, results of the questionnaire are reviewed and discussed by staff and governors and we will seek to address concerns/inconsistencies raised in the comments.

Raised concerns at parent consultation about my child being called a liar by a teacher whilst trying to inform the teacher about a matter that had happened while on break.  My child came home very distressed about this as she really liked this teacher and was very confused as to why this was said to her, as I am. As yet I have had no feedback to this - this has only happened this one occasion.

There is sometimes a lack of feedback from staff when concerns are raised

My child has had some concerns with another child's behaviour towards them/ between them this year and despite trying to talk to my child at home about this I had to contact the school. I was informed that this issue had been ongoing since the previous year and yet I had not been informed earlier - and it took my child being upset on a regular basis and myself approaching the school to find out there was an issue. I think this could have been dealt with in a better way by the school

Response: School staff seek to make themselves available for parents/carers as well as provide feedback to any concerns raised. I would urge you to speak directly to a member of staff if you do not feel that adequate feedback has been given and we will try our best to address this as soon as possible.

We feel SEN is under resourced in this school. This is not the fault of individuals but the general SEN seems to be in need of more resources and funding. Middle schools we have visited are better resourced. We hope this changes in the future

Response: The school seeks to match SEN support to the needs of the pupils. We aim to work in partnership with parents/carers and would discuss the deployment of school staff and external agencies such as an educational psychologist during a review meeting.

Sometimes find parents evening a little puzzling. Never fully understand child's progress or how to improve

Response: Please raise any questions directly with the teaching staff at Parents’ Evening. We want to make the meetings as useful as possible for parents/carers and would seek to explain how we define progress and how you could support your child with their learning.

My child is very happy at school and seems to enjoy almost all aspects. My only complaint is the hard-sell on school meals by text

Response: The texts are not intended to keep you informed as opposed to a hard sell. Please be assured that there is no obligation to take part.

Marine Park is an excellent school and we are very happy with it. I do feel more recently there has been a shift in attitude towards how things look to the external world - statistics, league tables etc. I also feel there has developed a one size fits all approach which goes against the 'each child is unique and will be treated as such' approach that I feel was apparent a few years ago. [Name redacted] is a great teacher and she has brought out the best in our daughter.

Parental Comments– Response in Green

Comments that identify individuals (positive or negative) have not been pubished following a discussion at Full Governing Body meeting

No concerns, excellent schooling at all levels. My child is being enabled and fully supported, thus achieving her full potential. She has been allowed to grow at her own pace with lots of appropriate encouragement. Her confidence has soared and she is hitting her targets and above. She said she feels 'really good about herself' and proud of her achievements at Marine Park First School.

We moved to Whitley Bay when my child was about to enter year 1. Both her and our experience of joining Marine Park has been fantastic and I can't recommend it highly enough. She has made a lovely group of friends with the subtle and thoughtful support of her class teacher, [name redacted]. We have felt welcomed into school events and by other parents. She is making great progress, with learning across the syllabus and really enjoys it.

I have been very impressed with the schooling at Marine Park. The teachers are very good, very approachable and provide a very high level of education within the Nursery. I have been very pleasantly surprised at the structure within Nursery and the achievements they have managed to get from very young children. I didn't think it was possible at this age. They have really involved us in our son’s education and encouraged learning to continue at home too, it's nice to be involved and to be informed on how best to support our son. Our son has become more confident in many areas and enjoys learning. He loves his teacher, [name redacted], and we do too.

Really pleased with the academic as well as social and emotional progress [name redacted] has made.

I have 4 children, all have excellent experience of MPFS. Though my eldest is 21 years old she still has fond memories.

Both my children are very happy attending Marine Park First School. They are enthused and highly motivated by the exciting topics and the numerous educational visits. They have also enjoyed the vast range of after school clubs available and feel very strongly that Marine Park First School is the best school.

This school has helped my child with confidence issues and always help me to help him too. We make joint decisions and team is always very helpful.

Marine Park First School was always my first choice for my children. They all enjoy and actually want to go to school. The teachers are very well liked by the children and I would recommend friends and family to send their children to Marine Park.

We also appreciate the time given in the curriculum to art, music and science. These make an important contribution to a well-rounded education

We're very happy with the ethos of the school and the nurturing my daughter receives. She really enjoys school!

The school is excellent, all the staff are wonderful with the children and make it very friendly and happy place to be. The breakfast and after school club is a great service and my children really enjoy attending.
I always attend school fairs - they are great events and really bring the school together

The school has greatly helped my daughter develop in a number of areas. She enjoys Marine Park First School throughout her time there. The school has a welcoming feel and the staff and Headteacher are a credit to their profession. I would recommend other parents to use Marine Park First School

We couldn't have asked for a better start for our little girl. All staff are clearly committed to their job and work extremely hard to meet the individual needs of the children. I look forward to my little girl progressing through the school

The school and teachers challenge the children in all of the right ways and provide a positive, caring and nurturing environment for our children

My daughter loves going to school and gets upset when she has time off

[Name redacted] is loving reception. We are delighted with the school

My husband is in the forces and therefore my child moves schools regularly. This is the best school my child has attended

Brilliant school

We are extremely happy with the progress both our children have made a Marine Park School. The school provides not only an outstanding academic program but also lots of opportunities to grow socially. Our children look forward to coming to school everyday

Have just started volunteering as a Classroom Assistant at this school and I am very pleased with how organised it is. All members of staff are a credit to the school.

I haven't been aware of any bullying issues and feel confident the school would deal with them well

No experience re bullying issue

I'm not aware of any bullying issues and I'm sure the school deals with it well but don't know how they do!

No experience of bullying at the school so don't know how they deal with it.

Bullying question - my child is at nursery and I feel I don't have enough information to be able to give a fair comment about this.  Responds well to concerns - I haven't raised any yet so I can't answer this.

Re bullying question - unaware of any in school so no idea how the school deals with it -a good thing!

Questions I responded to with 'Don't Know' is because I have no direct experience of how the school deals with behaviour
