· Nothing thank you for all of your hard work

· Nothing everything is very good

· It is hard with sending to club before and after school to get a sense of how he is doing or areas he may need more support, some more personal feedback would help.  Perhaps some notes in the learning journey about struggles or successes a sentence would do

· Clearer explanation about differences between am/pm 30 hrs ensuring concerns are passed to all staff to monitor, monitor parents entering nursery room / drop off – is it better saying goodbye at the cloak room?

· Thank you of everybody’s support we are very thankful for your hard work and making nursery such a lovely experience for O.  We have been very pleased so far and it is great that he is so happy

· Clearer communications i.e. explain acronyms in parent communications.  Ensure the communications are relevant especially through the school gateway

· Less paperwork – could have been text links?

· Some writing exercises for home would be good

· Send text reminders about important days / events

We also value your suggestions on what we could do better and would like to take the opportunity to respond to some of your feedback:

Online Learning Journeys:

Some schools do use online Learning Journeys (such as ‘Tapestry’) to share learning between home and school. This is something we have carefully considered, however we feel our Learning Journey books are preferable for the following reasons:

· They encourage the children to develop their book handling skills (holding books the correct way, turning pages appropriately and looking from left to right).

· They enable the children to share their news every week in small groups; this develops important communication and language skills.

· They help the children to review their learning every day as they share them in reading areas and talk about past learning and experiences.

· Some parents and carers do not wish their child’s image to appear online. Our books provide a more rigorous mechanism in terms of safeguarding and respecting parents/carers wishes.

Communication with Wraparound and After School Club:

Staff in school liaise every day to share important information for parents whose children have any transitions throughout the day, whether it be wraparound or club. Sometimes, there may be a matter which staff feel is more appropriate to talk to you about directly, in which case they will ring or speak to you as you pick up your child if that is possible. In terms of sharing information on an individual child’s progress, information is shared at parents’ evenings and in Learning Journeys. If you have any concerns, your child’s teacher will be happy to speak to you at any arranged time. Similarly, if we have any concerns, then we will ring to share them with you. Parents/carers and their children are monitored closely as they arrive at Nursery.

Sharing information with parents:

As part of our commitment to citizenship, we talk to the children about the importance of respecting the environment. One of the recent improvements we have made, in consultation with parents, is to move to online newsletters to reduce the amount of paper we use. Importantly, this also has a considerable financial impact. However, we do feel some information needs to be represented in paper form.

Billing systems:

The iPal billing system recently introduced in After School Club is still being trialled. Thank you for bearing with us whilst a few issues are being addressed. We will explore the feasibility of also using this system for other online school payments.

Children as individuals:

Our Early Years curriculum focuses on ‘the unique child’ and we take every opportunity to share children’s achievements both at school and at home. Our Learning Journeys are an effective mechanism to communicate these with parents and staff; we place great value in recognising achievements and raising children’s self-esteem. Because we also report at the end of the Reception year on ‘how’ your child learns, we observe their ‘Characteristics of Effective Learning’ based on:

· Playing and exploring

· Active Learning

· Creating and thinking critically

Writing at home:

Learning Journey activities sometimes include writing, and the ‘Read Write Inc’ letter formation rhymes have been given to all parents/carers to encourage their child to say the rhymes to ensure they are forming letters correctly. The development of fine motor skills actively supports improved pencil control and pressure. These skills can be developed in lots of other ways at home: manipulating playdough, plasticine etc, threading, baking, finger rhymes etc.

Please speak to Early Years staff if we can be of any further assistance.
